Studies in Travel Writing

Studies in Travel Writing is an international, refereed journal that encourages multi- and cross-disciplinary scholar-ship on travel texts. It welcomes essays on travel writing in its broadest as well as its conventional sense and aims to serve as a forum for discussion and debate about primary materials and methodologies. It promotes both recovery research and theoretical approaches. Without restriction on period or region of study, the journal allows for specific contexts of travel writing to be established and for common features to be identified.
Studies in Travel Writing was launched in 1997 with a volume from the Essex symposia, edited by Peter Hulme, and it has been published by the White Horse Press since 2003. Volume 7 (2003) included a special issue on Latin American Travel Writing, edited by Claire Lindsay and Tim Youngs; while Volume 8 (2004) included a special issue on Modernism, edited by Stan Smith and Tim Youngs. Volume 9 (2005) featured interviews with William Dalrymple and Robyn Davidson. Volume 10 (2006) includes articles by Christopher Whitehead, Aaron Landau and Peter Hulme, and an interview with Elaine Lee.
